Our Game of the Week was supposed to be a fight. Arbor View had won two in a row and was the first team outside our top ten. Shadow Ridge was #8 and had just held a team to 24 yards. Instead the Aggies put up 49. Everywhere else the top of both lists mostly held, except in Sacramento, where our unbeaten NIAA #2 found out what a road trip feels like. Let’s take a ride around the Valley.

Week 7 High School Football Games: NIAA

#1 Bishop Gorman did not slow down and will not slow down until Christmas break. A week after beating Mater Dei for the first time in program history, the Gaels put 45 on #6 Faith Lutheran and only gave up a field goal. Ace Amina was 10 of 13 for 257 yards and three touchdowns, from a quarterback who barely had to stay on the field. Gorman is 5-1. Faith Lutheran is 3-4 and has now played Gorman, Morgan, and a brutal schedule that its record keeps lying about. We shot this one, and photos are available at the link above.

#2 Mater East took its first loss, 35-28 at Grant in Sacramento. The Knights were 4-0 and a week removed from going into Henderson and beating Sloan Canyon on a final-play stop. Road trips to Northern California will do that to you. The Knights are 4-1 and still in front of everybody on this list except Gorman.

#3 Sloan Canyon answered the way a team that just lost its No. 2 spot is supposed to. The Pirates beat Pinecrest Cadence 50-0 and are 4-1, level with Mater East on record, with the head-to-head matchup the only thing separating them.

Elsewhere on the NIAA side: #7 SLAM! Nevada beat #9 Somerset Losee 24-14, and #8 Lake Mead went to El Cajon and shut out Foothills Christian 40-0. #10 The Meadows lost 35-0 to Lincoln County.

The Independent thing is changing quickly… As we knew it would.

#1 Palo Verde is still perfect. The Panthers beat Silverado 22-6 behind Darrek Walker, who ran for 52 yards and two touchdowns. The Black and Silver have played six games, got six wins, and nobody else on this list is unbeaten except a Del Sol Team whose strength of schedule can’t match up.

#2 Coronado had the best game of the night, though. The Cougars trailed Foothill 14-12 at the half and won 34-27. Matthias Rantissi carried it 25 times for 164 yards and two scores, which is a senior running back saying “Give me the damn ball” after a season-ending injury in game 1 of last year’s campaign. Coronado is 5-1. The Falcons are 3-3 and have now lost to Liberty by 31 and Coronado by seven in back-to-back weeks. We were at this one too; FSM photographer Raykyn Allen shot it at his alma mater. Game photos are available for download at the link above.

#3 Basic beat Durango 32-19 and is 5-1. The Wolves went 0-10 last year. I’m gonna keep saying that for Big Antt. He’s shining right now.

#4 Liberty shut out Las Vegas High 38-0. This is the second shutout of the season for the Patriots, and in four games against Nevada teams, they have scored 42, 42, 48, and 38 while giving up 17 total. Both losses are still to out-of-state programs. Liberty is 4-2, and I don’t care what Kalani, Hannah, and Alon say; they will NOT be #4 this week.

#5 Legacy shut out Canyon Springs 41-0 and are 5-1. #6 Sunrise Mountain needed everything it had at Chaparral, winning 18-17 when Zik Hutchinson caught a 60-yard pass from August Krael late in the fourth quarter. That is the second week in a row a one-point game decided the Miners‘ night, and this time it went their way.

Then the one that hurts my effin’ soul. #9 Clark lost 40-37 at #7 Green Valley. The Chargers have now lost three in a row by seven, by one in overtime, and by three. That is eleven points between them and a 6-0 start. The Gators are 4-1 and quietly have the second-best record on this list.

#10 Del Sol stayed unbeaten, 16-7 over Cimarron-Memorial, and is 5-0. The strength of schedule is the question, and the Dragons keep answering it the only way they can, by winning.

Outside the list: Desert Pines hung 49 on Mojave, winning 49-7. Valley beat Eldorado 36-35, so a week after Eldorado won by one, they lost by one. Rancho beat Western 38-6 behind Carlos Loza, who ran for 100 yards and three scores. Spring Valley 14, Sierra Vista 7. Bonanza 16, Cheyenne 12.

FSM Prep Rally Independent Game of the Week: Arbor View at #8 Shadow Ridge

Here is what this game was supposed to be. Arbor View came in having won two straight, 55-34 over Centennial and 56-41 over Lincoln out of California, and was the first team we left off the top ten. Shadow Ridge was #8, 3-2, and a week removed from holding Desert Pines to 24 yards of offense and two first downs on homecoming. Two teams going in opposite directions on our list, meeting in the middle.

It wasn’t close. Arbor View won 49-13. The 36-point margin is the Aggies‘ biggest of the season, and across the three-game winning streak they are averaging 53.3 points a game. Read that again. FIFTY-THREE a night from a team that started 0-3.

For Shadow Ridge, it is their first league loss, and it drops the Mustangs to 3-3. The defense that suffocated Desert Pines a week ago gave up seven touchdowns to the Aggies. That is football in this valley right now: the team that looked unplayable on Friday looks ordinary the next. Especially when they play Arbor View.

RB/CB Kamareion Bell was our player of the game with 3 touchdowns, and I think he had more called back than he actually scored. #1 one wrecked this game on both sides of the ball; watch the FSM Prep Rally for his interview with Kalani. Thad Thatcher is the best QB in the city, and once again he played like it. He had an injury on a slide at the goal line late in the game that looked a lot worse in my lens than it was; thank God. My only advice for #7 is this: Get to the sideline, kid. You have a future at the next level. I know you want a state chip on your way out, but preservation is the key right now.

Coach Sam Norris spoke about the advantage of having these two leading his squad in the Prep Rally. Watch the full episode above.

What it means for The Aggies

Those 0-3 losses were at West in Salt Lake City by six, at Carlsbad in California by seven, and at Hamilton in Arizona by 44. Three road games out of state to open a season. Since coming home, Arbor View is 3-0 and has scored 55, 56, and 49. The record says 3-3. The last month says something else, and with strength of schedule coming into play, this week’s Top 10 list has to deal with it.

Next Friday is a real one. #3 Basic at #1 Palo Verde, which is the best Independent game on the board. #4 Liberty at #8 Shadow Ridge, so the Mustangs get some more bullies one week after this. #10 Del Sol at #6 Sunrise Mountain, where the strength-of-schedule question finally gets answered. Mojave at Arbor View. Las Vegas at #2 Coronado.

Our latest FSM Top 10 Rankings drop Sunday morning, and with Arbor View scoring 49 on our #8, Liberty pitching another shutout and Mater East taking its first loss, there will be movement. Make sure you keep coming back to FSM for all your 702 High School Football game coverage. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
