A grudge match will finally happen at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Conor McGregor will return in his first fight since 2021, and his opponent will be the electrifying Michael Chandler.

After years of beefing with one another, they will lay it all on the line. Everyone was excited for this match until McGregor announced he’d broken his toe and would pull out of the fight. Now, the UFC needs to find a new main event, and somehow, they found it in a short-notice title fight.

The light heavyweight champion, Alex “Poatan” Pereira (10-2), steps in on short notice to defend his belt. He will defend his title against the number one contender and former champion Jiří Procházka (30-4-1), who looks to reclaim his belt and avenge his loss to the current champion.

In a short time in the UFC, Alex Pereira has become one of their biggest stars.

Main Event: Alex Pereira (-160) vs Jiří Procházka (+130)

Since entering the promotion, Pereira competed in the middleweight division and won three times. He would earn himself a title shot against rival Israel Adesanya, which he won to become the new champion, but he would lose in the rematch. He then moved up to light heavyweight and beat former champion Jan Błachowicz, which earned him a fight for the vacant title against Jiří Procházka. Pereria would win the title, becoming the ninth person to be a two-division champion. Shortly after, he would make his first title defense against Jamahal Hill and Pereira would win by first-round knockout.

Pereira had done all of this before Conor McGregor returned to the octagon. Now, on two weeks’ notice, Pereira will add his ninth UFC fight and second title defense this Saturday night. Though he’s looked excellent in light-heavyweight, there is concern about how much weight he must cut. Pereira has to cut 22 pounds in two weeks, which can cause him to have a weaker chin and be easier to knock out. But against anyone, Pereira will have the advantage on the feet because he is the greatest striker in UFC history. Plus, because of his height, he’s difficult to keep on the ground.

Hopefully, he can handle the weight cut as Alex Pereira takes on a former champion and former opponent, Jiří Procházka

Just like Pereira, Jiří Procházka has found UFC success in a short amount of time. After spending most of his career in Rizin, Procházka would sign with the UFC in 2020. From there, he would take his first fight in July, where he became the first person to knock out Volkan Oezdemir. He would follow that performance with another finish, this time against Dominick Reyes. After those victories, he would earn a title fight against champion Glover Teixeria in 2022.

The two would go back and forth, with Teixeria looking to retain, but in the last 28 seconds, Procházka would win the fight by a rear naked choke. Procházka would become the new champion, but it wouldn’t last long. Heading into his first title defense, Procházka would have a horrible shoulder injury, which led to him vacating the belt. Though it’s sad, he would get another opportunity to reclaim it.

For the vacant title, Procházka would take on Pereira, and in that match, Procházka would struggle to handle his opponent’s striking, which led to him being knocked out in the second round. Pereira became the new light heavyweight champion, but Procházka failed to reclaim his title. Though it didn’t work out for him, Procházka considered it a learning experience and said he’d reclaim his belt one day. Procházka would start that journey by taking on another contender in Aleksandar Rakić, knocking him out. With that win, he earned himself a rematch with Alex Pereira

This time around, Procházka will know how skillful of a striker Pereira is. He should know he will not win in a battle on his feet. However, Procházka does have an unorthodox striking style, which he can use to set up takedowns. Those takedowns and his ground game are essential to keep the fight close. The only major concern with Procházka is his composure.

At times, he’ll look like the best fighter in the octagon, but other times, he’ll just spam “random attacks.” Those “random attacks” have put him in dangerous situations that he shouldn’t be in. But as long as Procházka stays composed, he’ll have a chance.

So check out this Saturday night as Pereira looks to continue his legacy and Procházka looks to get redemption.
