The Sugar show continues as Sean O’Malley (17-1 12KOs) captures gold at the TD Gardens in Boston over Aljamain Sterling via second-round TKO.

Making his appearance on the second season of The Dana White Contender Series, an undefeated skinny kid with big hair walked through the doors, ready to make a name for himself. Earning a knockout victory, O’Malley showed the world that he was a young talent to watch on the rise.

With each entrance into the Octagon, O’Malley’s confidence grew. Showing a powerful right hand, Sugar continued to hand out treats to his opponents rattling off five straight wins to start his UFC career. O’Malley has eight performance of the night bonuses in eleven appearances inside the Octagon. His powerful strikes and aggressive style make him one of the funniest fighters to watch.

UFC 292 saw the crowning of a new champion.

The best champion at 135lbs looked to fend off the future of the division.

Aljamain Sterling had cemented himself as the best champion in Bantamweight history with three successful title defenses against former champions in dominating fashion. With his run in the division, Sterling was looking to make one more run before moving up to featherweight(145lbs) to try his luck there with new challenges and the potential to earn another UFC title. Looking to derail the hype train and move on, Funk Master was looking to finish this chapter in his career.

Both fighters started the fight looking to keep their distance, as kicks were a heavy part of their offensive output. The champion looked to show that while Sugar is known for his striking, the Funk Master can hold his own in the stand-up department. O’Malley seemed tentative to start but found his footing as the round went on. He picked up the pace and went from playing defense to now being on offense. Sterling did attempt to close the distance and take the fight to the mat, but O’Malley was able to stuff the takedown attempts and keep the fight standing.

Impressive, as that seemed to be the key to victory for the title holder. Get the fight on the mat. Starting off the second round, Sugar seemed more relaxed, poised, and felt comfortable in the fight. Keeping his right hand at the ready, Sterling missed a straight left, and O’Malley countered with a straight right of his own that face-planted the champion. Standing over his opponent, dropping bomb after bomb strike, the end came shortly after as the referee jumped in to prevent further damage.

As the new face at 135lbs, from a TV show contender to now the king of the division, the journey has come full circle for O’Malley, who looks to make his own mark now and continue his rise as one of the sports biggest stars. Sterling’s move up a division may be next in the cards, or a possible rematch to see if he reclaims his title. Either way, the Bantamweight division is in good hands with a bright future.

UFC 292 once again gave the fans a great showing!

And New was heard and O’Malley now wears gold. From rising prospect to champion, The Sugar show is in full gear.
