The Vegas Golden Knights took on the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Saturday afternoon in Dallas.

Despite only having their top 18 skaters intact for just a handful of games, the Golden Knights had just five regulation losses in 27 games played. The Golden Knights have given 64 goals, the third-fewest in the NHL. The Golden Knights powerplay is converting at 22%, which is No. 12 overall, and the penalty kill is No. 3 overall, with an 87.18% success rate.

The Stars wrapped up a three-game road trip on the East Coast on Thursday and had a short turnaround against the Golden Knights. It is more common for teams to get an additional day off after a long road trip and traveling across the country. The Golden Knights had an opportunity to get a jump on a dangerous team.

The Stars have not had great defense or goaltending as of late. The road trip was not kind, as the Stars gave up 13 goals in three games. The Stars and Golden Knights have had a pair of low-scoring games that went to overtime already this season. The teams have combined for just eight goals in their two contests, but the sportsbooks feel this could be a high-scoring game based on an over/under of six.

The Golden Knights defeated the Stars in blowout fashion 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. While this was a great game from the Golden Knights, we must also acknowledge that this was the Stars’ fourth game in six nights and their first home game after a three-game trip on the East Coast.

The Golden Knights showed up on time and took advantage of a sleepy Stars team missing Roope Hintz due to sickness. The Golden Knights were missing Michael Amadio for personal reasons.

The Golden Knights’ Chandler Stephenson and Zach Whitecloud both scored early on in the game to give Vegas a 2-0 lead, and Mark Stone added a goal near the end of the period to restore the team’s two-goal lead that shrunk to one when Evgenii Dadonov scored against his former club.

The pace of play slowed in the second frame, but the Golden Knights extended their lead to 4-1 when Nicolas Roy picked up his fourth goal of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Golden Knights, who were looking to improve to an immaculate 9-0-1 on the “Dad’s trip,” had this game well in hand.

“It’s pretty cool obviously, all the dads are here,” said Paul Cotter, whose goal was his first in 18 games since Oct. 30. “When you get lucky enough to to get one while he’s in the building, it’s pretty cool. So maybe we ought to start bringing these guys here a lot more often.

Sometimes you get fortunate in the schedule,” Coach Bruce Cassidy said after the win. “That’s their fourth game this week. They were on the road in Florida and came back home. We’ve had a couple of days off.

In the third period, the Golden Knights Pavel Dorofeyev picked up his second goal of the year, and Paul Cotter scored the game’s final goal near the halfway point to make it 6-1.

“There’s a lot to like,” coach Cassidy said. “Our checking game was terrific. We didn’t allow them a lot of time and space. We wanted to get the right start, and we did.”

Everyone doesn’t have to score for us. If you go that long, it’s going to bother you. You’re going to need to score sooner or later. Today was the latter for Stephenson and Paul gets one late,Golden Knights coach Cassidy on Stephenson and Cotter snapping their scoring droughts.
