The Raiders took on the Vikings at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Coming off a bye week, the Raiders had hoped that the week off would help them get back on track. They were taking on a Minnesota Vikings team that was also struggling on offense but were getting back all-everything wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

In a season that started with so much hope and promise for the Raiders, it has become a disappointment. The team’s offense reached new lows on Sunday, as they failed to score points for the first time all year and just the second time since 2014, but the Raiders also only managed to gain just 202 yards of total offense and picked up only eight first downs on the teams 12 total drives.

It was a rough day all around for the offense, but rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell had a particularly tough day at the office. He went 21-of-32 for 172 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

I have confidence in myself to execute and do my job properly. I haven’t done it good enough, so I got to be better at doing that. But I still have full confidence in myself to do this,” O’Connell said after the game. “I’m learning every week what it takes and working extremely hard to try to put a good product on the field. I’m not doing it right now, so I have to do better.

Interim head coach Antonio Pierce may be looking to make a switch back to Jimmy Garoppolo.

We’ll evaluate everything going forward,” Pierce said after the game.

But the honeymoon period also may be over between Raider Nation and Pierce. The fans are frustrated and now seem to want Raiders owner Mark Davis to find a coach other than Pierce. To his credit, Pierce also isn’t satisfied with the Raiders recent results.

No excuse there; it is shocking—plenty of time to prepare for the opponent. We knew what they did, nothing new. Just, again, poor coaching and poor performance by the players. Starts with myself,” said Pierce after the game.

After the game, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reported that Davis met with Pierce for 25 minutes. It is unclear what was said, but Davis has done this with other coaches after he has been disappointed in his team’s performance. It also hasn’t ended well for those coaches.

The Raiders received the opening kickoff and returned it to the 20-yard line. Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell completed his first pass to Davante Adams for a 4-yard gain.

The Raiders continued to march down the field on their opening drive, but the drive stalled at their 47, and AJ Cole punched the ball to Minnesota.

The Vikings quickly went three and out and once again punted to the Raiders, who took over at their 34-yard line.

Once again, the Raiders started to move the ball against the Vikings’ defense only to have the drive stall at the Minnesota 49-yard line. Cole once again punted, and Minnesota took over at their 14-yard line.

It was the Vikings‘ turn to move the ball down the field. But after the Raiders Maxx Crosby sacked Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs, Minnesota was forced to punt. The Raiders took over at their 27-yard line only to go three and out.

Raiders punter AJ Cole, who had a busy day, boom a 57-yard punt, and the Vikings took over at their 21-yard line. Minnesota went on a 12-play drive that ended with the Vikings missing a 49-yard field goal that went wide right.

The Raiders took over at their 39-yard line but once again failed to get anything going, and after three plays, once again, punted, this time pinning the Vikings back to their 10-yard line. Minnesota went on a 9-play drive, getting all the way down to their 47-yard line. But the Raiders‘ defense tightened up and forced them to punt with just over a minute left in the first half.

O’Connell led the Raiders down to their 43-yard line only to be sacked as time expired in the first half.

At halftime, the score was 0–0.

The Raiders kicked off the ball to start the second half. The Vikings had a good return only to have it called back and were forced to start at their 14-yard line.

After six plays, the Raiders‘ defense once again forced the Vikings to punt, and the silver and black took over at their 48-yard line.

Even with that good starting field position, the Raiders offense once again shot themselves in the foot. After getting down inside the Minnesota 10-yard line, and after a holding call, Hunter Renfro fumbled with Minnesota recovering and the Vikings to go over at their 16-yard line.

The Raiders failed to score what would be critical points in a tightly contested game. Could the Raiders‘ defense again prove up to the task and force the Vikings to punt?

The answer was yes.

The Raiders defense, once again, was up to the task and forced a Minnesota punt. The Silver and Black took over at their 16-yard line. On 3rd & 5, O’Connell hit Tre Tucker on a deep pass down to the Minnesota 45. But the Vikings challenged the past completion, and the play was reversed; the Raiders were again forced to punt.

The Vikings took over with under a minute left in the third quarter, and we’re looking to break through against a tough Raiders defense.

Neither team could get anything going offensively in the fourth quarter. The Raiders forced Minnesota to punt on their next three possessions of the fourth quarter. The Vikings forced the Raiders to punt on their few possessions as well.

But Minnesota took over possession after another Raiders punt at their 26-yard line.

The Raiders defense, who had been on the field most of the day, allowed the Vikings to drive down to the Las Vegas 22-yard line. The Raiders used their first time out with 2:18 left in the game to try and preserve some clock in case they got the ball back.

At the two-minute warning, Minnesota kicked a 36-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

The Raiders took over at the 25-yard line, and on the next play, O’Connell’s pass intended for DaVante Adams was intercepted. The Raiders defense managed to get the ball back for the offense to play the lateral game. After a completed pass, offensive guard Greg Van Roten ended up with the ball, but he fumbled, with Minnesota recovering to end the game.

The Raiders lost 3-0 to Minnesota.
