The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Falcons against the winless New York Jets.

The Las Vegas Raiders and Jets are both coming off blowout losses, but the surprising part is the Raiders lost by more to the Atlanta Falcons than the Jets lost to the Miami Dolphins. In a shocking 43-6 loss to the Falcons, the Raiders were beaten from the outset, and what should have been a solid road win turned into a nightmare for the Silver and Black.

The Raiders showed up defensively to start the game against Atlanta but left their offense back in Vegas. Derek Carr had his worst game of the year with three fumbles and an interception ending in a pick-six.  The running game also struggled in this one, as Josh Jacobs sprained his ankle early and left the game. The injury will keep the Raiders leading rusher out of Sunday’s game.

Meanwhile, the Jets put up only three points against the Dolphins’ defense, as they couldn’t really move the ball much on offense. Quarterback Sam Darnold only passed for 197 yards on 16 completions with two interceptions. Even with the passing game struggling, wide receivers Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims made some pretty nice and contested catches.

This week it has to be the Las Vegas Raiders vs. themselves.

The Silver and Black need to get back to the basics. The Raiders embarrassed themselves in a 43-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. The game got out of hand, and the Raiders were awful. There’s no way that should have happened. The same thing goes against the winless Jets in this game. The Raiders need to assert their dominance and not mess around again.

One way of showing they are the better team is for the Raiders to start fast. If they can jump to an early double-digit lead, it would calm the Las Vegas sideline and help erase last week’s memory. It would also send a message to the Jets that it will be another long day for them. The Jets’ average margin of defeat to winning teams is three scores. Getting out to an early lead shouldn’t be a problem for Las Vegas.

Derek Carr lost three fumbles against Atlanta, and he has lost eight fumbles this season on 17 sacks, which is ridiculous. His eight fumbles lead the NFL this year, and Carr leads the NFL in fumbles since he entered the league in 2014. Carr has thrown only four interceptions this season, but he is averaging more than one turnover a game because of the fumbles. He must not give the Jets chances.

In addition to turnovers, the Raiders had a penalty problem against the Falcons and for the past few weeks after not committing many penalties in the first half of the season. The Raiders were penalized 11 times against the Falcons and 19 times total in the past two games. Clearly, that has to be fixed this week.
