Following a week where the Raiders beat the breaks off the Los Angeles Chargers and helped get their coach fired, the team was on the road to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day.

The Raiders’ interim head coach, Antonio Pierce, has done a hell of a job since taking over for Josh McDaniels. He has instilled belief in his team. The Raiders’ players have bought into his tough, “old-school” mentality, and a win against the Chiefs could go a long way into potentially making him the full-time head coach.

“I want to win. I want the big present. I want a ‘W.’ Can you put it in a big box with a bow for me? But in black, not red,Pierce said. “And then the other one, thankful and wishful for everybody that’s supported myself, this organization over the last several weeks. It’s been fun. It’s been fun. So, keep the wishes coming.

When Pierce was asked about how important is it to get that interior pass rush, he said, “Yeah, critical. I mean, if you really go back and watch our last game, that was the difference. Both ends did a good job of turning the corner and getting pressure and making the quarterback step up. Well, he can’t step up. That has got to be a big part,Pierce said earlier in the week. “Just rush coordination, rush discipline, everybody doing their job, right? You hear it, it’s very cliche, but it’s true. Especially with a quarterback that buys time, it’s never on rhythm. And we know that, we understand that, and we got to do a better job up front along with our coverage.

After the game on Christmas Day, Pierce was jacked up with emotion and proud of his team’s ability to step up.

Guys are stepping up,” Pierce said of the win. “Next man up mentality. Team football.”

The Raiders won the coin toss and elected to defer until the second half.

Antonio Pierce, the Raiders interim head coach, was putting trust in his defense to set the tone for the game. That was a bold strategy considering what Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense had done to them in the past.

But that gamble paid off early on, as the Raiders forced the Chiefs to go 3 and out. After the punt traveled 56 yards, the Raiders took over at their 18-yard line for their first possession of the game.

Neither offense could get going until the Raiders’ third possession when they went on a 15-play drive totaling 87 yards and took 8:44 off the clock. It ended with Daniel Carlson drilling a 24-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 3–0 lead.

Once again, the Raiders defense was up to the task as they forced the Chiefs to punt on their next possession to start the second quarter. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas offense was also sputtering as they ended their next possession in a punt.

The Chiefs then went on a 10-play, 74-yard drive that ended with Isaiah Pacheco scoring from 12 yards out to give the Chiefs a 7–3 lead. The Raiders offense once again was forced to punt after five plays, with the Chiefs taking over at their 13-yard line.

But on the very next play, Kansas City running back Isaiah Pacheco fumbled the ball that Bilal Nichols picked up and returned for an 8-yard touchdown to give the Raiders a 10–7 lead.

After the Chiefs received the kick, Patrick Mahomes tried to throw a short pass, but that was intercepted by the Raiders Jack Jones, who returned 33 yards for a touchdown. That was Jones’ second pick-six in as many weeks and the Raiders led 17–7.

The Raiders held Kansas City and they went to the half with a 17-7 lead and looked like they had full control of the game.

Raiders vs Chiefs – 3rd Quarter:

The third quarter was a defensive battle for both teams. Each team punted with their possessions until the Raiders broke through just before the end of the third quarter.

The Raiders won on a 7-play, 25-yard drive that ended with Daniel Carson hitting his second field goal of the game, giving them the 20–7 lead.

The Raiders defense had Patrick Mahomes flustered all game resulting in him showing his angst on the sideline to teammates and coaches alike. Even Travis Kelsey, with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, watching from a suite above, was flustered with the Raiders defense stifling him all game.

Raiders vs Chiefs – 4th Quarter:

The Chiefs’ offense got back on the field to start the fourth quarter, and Patrick Mahomes was intercepted by the Raiders safety Trevon Moehrig. But after a replay review, the interception call was reversed, and it was ruled an incomplete pass.

The Chiefs were forced to punt, and the Raiders took over. But after the Raiders were forced to punt when their possession went nowhere, the Chiefs went on a 9-play, 69-yard drive with Patrick Mahomes throwing a touchdown pass to cut the Raiders’ lead to 20–14.

The Chiefs were then forced to try to stop the Raiders from getting a first down to essentially end the game. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, that wasn’t the case and the Raiders ran the clock out, giving Raider Nation a Christmas day win, 20–14.

It was a helluva job by those guys, our staff, and (Defensive Coordinator) Patrick Graham,” said Interim Head Coach Antonio Pierce, who is 4-3 since taking over when Josh McDaniels was fired. “We said enough is enough (against the Chiefs). Defense, offense, special teams, it was a team effort.

The Raiders travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts on Sunday, December 31st. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
