The 2022 season kicks off this week, and it starts off strong as Bishop Gorman, the 2021 Nevada state champions, takes on the 2021 Utah state champion runner-up’s Corner Canyon in this season’s first FSM Prep Rally game of the week.

The #6th nationally ranked Gaels come into the new year with high expectations: state and national championships. It will be challenging early on for the Gales as they possess one of the nation’s most demanding non-league schedules. Starting week 1, Gorman will face Corner Canyon; the #1 ranked team in Utah this year according to MaxPreps.

The Chargers have posted a record of 63-3 in their last five seasons and collected three state championships (2018, 2019, 2020) during that run. Last week, in their first game of the season, Corner Canyon defeated their opponent 45-7, with their core players putting up insane numbers. Star QB Isaac Wilson, brother of New York Jets QB Zach Wilson, threw for 450 yards and six touchdown passes. The Chargers also had two receivers who finished the game with 318 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

With a high-powered passing game, the Chargers come in as some formidable competition for Bishop Gorman and stand as their first test of the 2022 season.

Along with the FSM game of the week, we will also get a chance to see Lake Mead Christian Academy start their season on Friday at home against non-league opponent Somerset Academy Losee.

The Eagles come into the 2022 season with a coaching staff that knows what it takes to play ball in Las Vegas successfully. Former UNLV football player Head Coach Nathanial Oishi has built a staff of former Rebel players, some with Pro level experience, that are looking to build a winning program that can compete in the Las Vegas 2A division.

The staff includes head coach Nathan Oishi, Mike Hughes, who is the defensive coordinator/defensive line coach; Gabe McCoy, who is the linebackers coach; Ty’Jason Roberts, who is the defensive backs coach, JD Alexander, who is also the son of Del Alexander, Sid Acosta, who is the offensive line coach, and Christian Clapp who is the wide receivers coach.
