The FSM Prep Rally Game of the Week was two top 10 teams in the FSM Prep Rally Top 10 Rankings facing off for the league title in the 5A/D2 division.

It was the Battle for Boulder Highway as Foothill traveled to Dan Taylor Stadium to take on the Basic Wolves.

Basic has felt they have been disrespected all year by being unranked or at the bottom of the top 10 rankings. On the other hand, Foothill moved into the top three heading into this week ten clash. Both teams have potent offenses and hardening defenses.

It would be a battle of wills to see who would win and claim the league title.

Basic was led by Anthony Vega, their senior quarterback. On the night, he threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three more. He also completed 21–28 passes for 282 yards and had 62 yards rushing.

It feels great. It’s another game, but this one means something,” Vega said. “We’ve grown. We’ve been through ups and downs. We just pulled through and got the job done when we needed to.

Corey Traylor had 130 yards receiving on six catches, including a 43-yard touchdown pass to get the scoring started. Zuri Whiters chipped in with 111 receiving yards on nine catches. Basic also got it done with their ground game, with Brandon Griffin running for 112 yards on the night.

One of the best quarterbacks in Las Vegas, Mason Dew, threw for 312 yards and five touchdown passes in the loss.

Because Basic won, they clinched the first-round bye in the semi-finals and have home-field advantage in the Southern Region playoffs. They also will be promoted to 5A/D1 next season.

For Basic, it’s been 60 years since they won their last state title, and now they are the favorite to represent Southern Nevada in the NIAA playoffs.

It feels fantastic,” Basic head coach Jeff Cahill said after the game. “It’s been since 2015 when we last had a league title. We knew going into this game Foothill is an excellent team riding an eight-game winning streak, and we had to win by a certain amount of points. Our kids came out and played the best game we’ve played all year, and we couldn’t be prouder of the kids.

The final score in the Foothill vs Basic game was the Wolves beating the Falcons, 49-32.

The number #1 ranked team in the nation, the Bishop Gorman Gaels defeated Coronado 49-7. The Gaels finish the regular season undefeated and will be the #1 seed in the 5A/D1 playoffs. They will have a bye next week as they look to make a run for their fourth National Title, which they will earn should they win the Nevada State Title.

#2 ranked Liberty had a tough game against #7 Shadow Ridge on Thursday night. The Patriots survived a scare with a 35–32 win over the Mustangs in what was unarguably the best game between local teams this season.

#4 ranked Arbor View struggled with Silverado and came away with a 17–6 win. The top team at the 4A level, the #5 Centennial Bulldogs, blasted Cheyenne 40–0.

#6 Desert Pines beat Durango, 33–6, and #8 Faith Lutheran beat Las Vegas 49–7. Lastly,#10 Slam Academy beat Mater East 50-25.

Foothill vs Basic could be a playoff preview in the 5A-D2 division.
