The Los Angeles Lakers were blown out by the Phoenix Suns, 127-109, dropping below .500 once again (19-20). They are now tied with the Utah Jazz for the tenth seed in the Western Conference. They’re just 5-11 since they won the In-Season Tournament.

We had a bunch of turnovers in the first half, and they made their shots,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “I thought we were there at different times and forced them into tough situations, but they capitalized.”

Somehow, D’Angelo Russell came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 19 points (7-of-14 FGs, 3-of-7 3s) and was tied for second with six assists.

The tandem of All-Stars failed to make a meaningful impact on the game as they’re expected to, with Anthony Davis having just 13 points (6-of-11 FGs, 0-of-2 3s), five rebounds, and two blocks in 32 minutes, and LeBron James totaled just 10 points (3-of-11 FGs, 0-of-4 3s, 4-of-7 FTs), five rebounds, and nine assists on 24 minutes of action.

I thought they were very aware of what we wanted to do,” James said. “Having their Big Three helped as well.”

As for Phoenix, Bradley Beal couldn’t miss and came away with a season-high 37 points (14-of-21 FGs, 8-of-10 3s), as well as collecting six rebounds. Devin Booker followed suit with 31 points (11-of-22 FGs, 2-of-6 3s, 7-of-7 FTs), five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, and Kevin Durant chipped in 18 points (7-of-12 FGs, 2-of-5 3s), five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Lakers vs Suns 1st Quarter:

The Suns started the game off hot, as they were 5-for-8 from 3 against a Lakers starting five that has been allowing 3s to opponents of late, leading to Los Angeles trailing 17-9 into the first time out.

Their porous perimeter defense ultimately led to another double-digit first-period hole for the Lakers, as Phoenix went up 26-14 behind 10-of-15 makes overall and 5-of-10 3s. Los Angeles compounded their failures with three turnovers to just one from the Suns despite shooting 50 percent overall.

Phoenix was 0-3 against the Lakers this year, with all three losses without their entire lineup, and they came out attacking in this one as if to emphasize that point. Booker already had 12 points, Beal had six, and Durant had five, with the Suns up 30-15.

Los Angeles had a solid close to the first, trimming a 17-point lead to nine when Austin Reaves hit a three before a red-hot Booker hit his sixth shot in 10 attempts to reach 16 points, creating a 36-25 margin.

Taurean Prince led the Lakers with eight points. Davis had five points, James had three, and Booker had 14 points.

Lakers vs Suns 2nd Quarter:

No Laker was in double figures at halftime. The Suns cooled off as both teams struggled from beyond the arc (Los Angeles shot 29.4 percent, while Phoenix shot 28.6 percent).

The Lakers trailed by 14, 66-52 at halftime. Their defense wasn’t getting stops with Booker on fire, and Los Angeles offense looked non-threatening.

Lakers vs Suns 3rd Quarter:

With the Lakers trailing 105-78 after three quarters (Phoenix outscored them 39-26 in the third), James and Davis sat for the entire fourth period. The Lakers gave up at least 30 points in each of the first three quarters.

Los Angeles managed to outscore the Suns 31-22 in the fourth after the game was decided to trim what grew to a 32-point deficit at one point.

The Lakers are now 3-1 against Phoenix this year but 0-1 when the Suns are healthy. Booker and Beal combined for 68 points.

The Lakers have fallen below .500 again, and the trade rumors should be heating up once more.

The Los Angeles Lakers will now take on the Utah Jazz on Saturday, January 13th, at 6:30 pm PST. Thank you for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news.
