The Los Angeles Lakers season is in jeopardy after falling 0-3 in the series against the Denver Nuggets following their 112-105 loss. Denver has now won 11 straight games.

That’s the way the game goes,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “It’s a make-or-miss league. We have to keep the scoreboard moving.”

Anthony Davis showed up once again with 33 points (14-of-23 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs) and 15 rebounds.

LeBron James followed suit with 26 points (12-of-20 FGs, 1-of-6 3s), six rebounds, nine assists, and two steals.

It’s one game at a time at this point,” James said. “As long as you still have life, then you always have belief. You play until the wheels fall off. That’s what it’s always about for me as a mindset.

Stats for the Lake Show:

Austin Reaves had 22 points (8-of-17 FGs, 2-of-5 3s), five rebounds, and four steals.

D’Angelo Russell went missing, going scoreless on 0-of-7 shooting overall and 0-of-6 from downtown.

Rui Hachimura had just five points and had a team-low of -12 in 28 minutes of play.

For the Nuggets:

Aaron Gordon led the way in scoring with 29 points (12-of-18 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs) and 15 rebounds.

Nikola Jokic had 24 points (9-of-13 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), 15 rebounds, and nine assists.

Jamal Murray put up 22 points (8-of-21 FGs, 1-of-6 3s, 5-of-6 FTs), five rebounds, and nine assists.

Michael Porter Jr. finished with 20 points (8-of-16 FGs, 2-of-6 3s) and ten rebounds.

I think every game is tougher and tougher,” Jokic said. “They were up 20 in Denver, they were up 12 today in the first half, but I think it’s really hard to play against the same team over and over again. That’s a really tough team, and every game is really interesting and tough to win. Every game, we’re playing catch-up, and they’re really talented. It’s really hard to close a team out.”

Lakers vs Nuggets First Quarter:

Early in the game, Davis flew in for an offensive board of a Russell miss, forcing the second foul on Jokić. Jokic stayed in with 7:51 left in the first period, and Los Angeles led 16-7 after two Davis free throws.

Gordon beat the Lakers three times on the baseline for buckets and got a put-back off a missed Porter layup to get Denver within three. He had eight of their 17 points. Gordon also switched onto Davis with Jokic in foul trouble.

Los Angeles was +8 in the Jokic minutes until he sat with 1:05 to play in the first, lasting most of the period with two fouls he picked up early.

The Lakers won their third straight first quarter, this time 33-23, but couldn’t be any less comfortable with a lead after Denver erased 12- and 20-point deficits in the first two games. Game 1 was 33-25, and Game 2 was 28-24 after 1.

Los Angeles was -6 in six minutes with Taurean Prince at the four next to three guards. Those lineups were often in 1-2 minute shifts, but they didn’t work against Denver.

Lakers vs Nuggets Second Quarter:

The Nuggets were as close as they’d been since the opening minutes, with a 6-0 run boosted by two Lakers turnovers and a rushed three that missed (Russell), as Los Angeles’ lead was 47-43 with 2:43 left in the first half.

The Lakers had some good things going in the first half but headed into halftime with only a four-point advantage after the Nuggets got two Murray free throws with 34 seconds in the second and yet another Gordon tip-in, this one with 00.8 left. Gordon had four of Denver’s nine offensive boards and 14 points.

It felt like Los Angeles should’ve been up by more with how Denver shot and turned the ball over. The Nuggets’ offensive rebounds (nine) and second-chance points (12) kept them in it.

Lakers vs Nuggets Third Quarter:

Denver came out the halftime gates firing, going on a 9-2 run to start the third and a 13-2 run going back to the final minute of the second, as the Lakers, once up 12, trailed 58-55.

The Nuggets challenged what looked like a clear foul with Jokic pushing Davis with his left hand. However, Los Angeles didn’t fare well in Nuggets challenges in Game 2.

In the last game, Porter’s contact with Russell’s face was deemed “marginal,” but in this one, the challenge was unsuccessful, and it was Jokic’s third foul. The play was also ruled a goaltending violation, so Davis got an and-1 layup. Davis missed the free throw, and the Lakers led by 1.

The 10th Denver offensive rebound led to their fourth triple, a wide-open look from Murray, as Los Angeles trailed by six after a 7-0 Nuggets spurt. Meanwhile, the Lakers were 1-for-14 from 3.

Like in Game 1, Los Angeles was outscored 34-22 in the third (32-18 in Game 1). The Nuggets led 83-75 entering the final 12 minutes as the Lakers tried to avoid a 3-0 hole. Davis was 13-for-20 (30 points), but the rest of the team was just 19-for-45.

Lakers vs Nuggets Fourth Quarter:

Porter Jr. was 4-for-4 in the fourth, mostly on contested jumpers. The Nuggets led 97-86 with 6:43 to play.

The Lakers scored 20 points in the third and fourth quarters at Denver in Game 2. In this one, they scored 22 in the third and 30 in the fourth. However, it wasn’t enough.

The Los Angeles Lakers will stay home for Game 3 against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, April 27th, at 5:30 pm PST. Thank you for visiting for your Las Vegas Sports news.
