The Golden Knights took on the Dallas Stars Friday night in Game 6 of their first-round matchup in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Vegas Golden coach Bruce Cassidy wasn’t asking for perfection in Game 6, just something closer to it than he has witnessed recently.

We have another level. I believe that,Cassidy said before the start of the game. “But you gotta do it.”

After winning the first two games, the defending champion Golden Knights had lost three in a row. Vegas hasn’t been able to score more than two goals in the last three games.

We just haven’t done it long enough and well enough,Cassidy said. “So that’s what’s in front of us.  We have to be more consistent for 60 minutes. Nobody plays a full 60-minute game. It doesn’t happen in this league, even in the playoffs. We have to get closer to that. Get over the hump.”

Cassidy got what he asked for.

Behind Adin Hill’s stellar play, the Golden Knights beat the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Game 6 to force a Game 7 thanks to a third-period goal from Noah Hanifin.

The first two periods of Game 6 were a defensive war between the Golden Knights and Stars. Both teams came out playing fast and physical, which led to the first two periods being a scoreless tie.

Hill, the 2023 Stanley Cup-winning goalie, sat behind Logan Thompson for the series’ first four games. He got the Game 5 start, a 3-2 loss, and stopped all 23 shots he faced on Friday, including a breakaway by Miro Heiskanen. Hill looked like he did during last season’s run.

Oettinger was also impressive in Game 6. He stopped 28 of 29 shots on Friday as the Golden Knights dialed up the pressure. Oettinger has a .921 save percentage in the playoffs thus far.

Golden Knights vs Stars Third Period:

After almost two and a half periods, Noah Hanifin finally broke the ice to give the Golden Knights the lead.

Hanifin broke a scoreless tie at 9:54 of the third period when he picked up a loose puck, skated to the faceoff circle, and wristed a shot past screened Stars goalie Jake Oettinger.

Mark Stone scored the empty net goal to seal Game 6 and force a Game 7.

The Golden Knights outshot the Stars 30-23. This was the third consecutive game in which the Golden Knights outshot the Stars. Adin Hill stopped all 23 shots he faced to pick up his third career playoff shutout.

The series has been back and forth, and it’s only fitting that it goes the distance. The Golden Knights and Stars will play Game 7 on Sunday in Dallas.

The Golden Knights will return to Dallas to take on the Stars in game 7 of their first-round matchup on Sunday, May 5th, at 4:30 pm. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
