The Golden Knights took on the Dallas Stars Saturday night in Game 3 of their first-round matchup in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Injured defenseman Nicolas Hague has been unable to practice and was ruled out for Saturday night’s Vegas Golden Knights Game 3 against the Dallas Stars.

Veteran Alec Martinez is filling his spot. The Michigan native played 15:20 and was not on the ice for the one goal against. Defensive depth is one of the Golden Knights’ strengths. Their defensive coverage has been strong over the first two games.

Vegas only gave up 21 shots on goal in Game 2. The Golden Knights ranked 12th in goals-against in the regular season, but they have raised the efficiency of their defensive work in the postseason.

Logan Thompson made 43 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Vegas Golden Knights dropped an overtime game to the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.

Brayden McNabb had a goal and an assist, while Jack Eichel also scored for Vegas, who has a 2-1 series lead on Dallas.

They had a level of urgency that we weren’t able to match. Sometimes that happens, said Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy. “At some point, you got to get to your game. It just took us too long. Now, having said that, we weather it because of Logan. He gave us every chance to get back in the game, and we did so once it was 2-2; then it was a little bit different, but they executed better than we did. You see it over time. They had more jump, more urgency. We didn’t have that level we needed tonight to win a playoff hockey game.”

Game 3 saw Dallas find its footing early. Johnston scored the opening goal near the halfway point of the first period before Miro Heiskanen doubled the lead to 2-0 a little more than five minutes into the second period.

Having a two-goal lead, however, was short-lived. The Golden Knights tied the score on a pair of second-period goals from Brayden McNabb and Eichel.

Dallas dominated the first 30 minutes, outshooting the Golden Knights 30-10 and finishing the second period with a 21-3 edge in high-danger chances. But Thompson kept Vegas in the game, stopping Tyler Sequin twice in the second period on breakaways.

Wyatt Johnston scored at 16:23 of overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 3 of their Western Conference First-Round series on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Johnston roofed a sharp-angled wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle over the left shoulder of Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson for the game-winner and his second goal.

Miro Heiskanen had a goal and an assist, and Jason Robertson added two assists for Dallas, which still trails the best-of-seven series 2-1. Jake Oettinger finished with 32 saves. Game 4 is Monday night in Las Vegas.

The Golden Knights will host the Stars in game 4 of their first-round matchup on Monday, April 29th, at 6:30 pm. Thanks for visiting for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
