The Golden Knights took on the Dallas Stars Wednesday night in Game 2 of their first-round matchup in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Since entering the NHL in 2017, the Golden Knights have proven to be trendsetters. They’re at it again in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

When the postseason got underway Monday, Logan Thompson was between the posts as Vegas beat the Dallas Stars 4-3. Last season, Adin Hill was the VGK starter, and many thought he’d be there again when the playoffs started, but this postseason, it was Thompson.

I’m definitely happy for him,Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault said after the game. “Everybody had adversity this year, and he did great for us.

“The past few weeks, he’s been unbelievable for us.”

Thompson’s victory Monday was his first-ever in Stanley Cup playoff action. He was back between the posts for Game 2 on Wednesday night.

Thompson picked up his second victory on Wednesday night. The Golden Knights beat the Stars 3-1 to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. The series now shifts to T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night. Reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault and center Jack Eichel led the way offensively for the Golden Knights, recording a goal and an assist apiece in the victory.

The defending Stanley Cup champions played clinical hockey, especially in the third period. They did not allow Dallas to register a shot on goal during the final 5:38 of the game. Logan Thompson wasn’t overly busy but was stellar when called upon for the Golden Knights, stopping 20 of 21 shots on the night.

Dallas got the scoring started in the first period. The Stars were limited to just one goal, a power-play tally by Jason Robertson, but it was all Golden Knights the remainder of the way.

Jonathan Marchessault scored off a brilliant feed from Jack Eichel toward the end of the 1st period, and Vegas entered the first intermission with the score tied 1-1.

Play remained tied for most of the 2nd period, and Vegas pulled ahead with a goal by Noah Hanifin, which came together after a bit of a broken sequence in front of the net after Dallas could not clear the puck off a rebound. The Golden Knights led 2-1 and looked like the more physical and dominant team.

Eichel buried an empty-net goal with 34 seconds remaining in the game to secure a 3-1 victory. As mentioned earlier, Dallas scored in the first period, and they got their lone goal in a period in which they tallied 11 shots on goal.

Vegas limited Dallas to 5 shots in the 2nd period, five shots in the 3rd period, and 0 shots overall during the last 5:38 of the game. Both sides had just one power play opportunity, and Vegas went 0-1 to Dallas’ 1-1.

The Golden Knights are now 5-0 on the season against Dallas, and both sides will meet again for Game 3 on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in what is a do-or-die game for the Stars in which the Golden Knights will look to take a true stranglehold on the series.

The Golden Knights will host the Stars in game 3 of their first-round matchup on Saturday, April 27th, at 7:30 pm. Thanks for visiting for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
