The Vegas Golden Knights finished off the five-game road trip against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night.

Wednesday night’s game in Dallas marks the Golden Knights‘ return since knocking the Stars out of the Western Conference Final. To make matters worse for Dallas, the Golden Knights took care of business over the Stars in their home arena last May.

There has been a ton of attention that has been directed toward the Golden Knights‘ puck management issues throughout the road trip. Would it be possible for the Golden Knights to streamline their game strategy, giving them improved puck management? Could VGK find a way to get their 5th point of the road trip, or would it be another disappointing outcome to conclude their five games away from T-Mobile Arena?

The initial pace of the game was sluggish, with both teams struggling to generate significant scoring opportunities.

Jamie Benn had the standout chance for the Stars in the period, seizing on a turnover by Alex Pietrangelo, but Adin Hill’s impressive glove save maintained a scoreless game. The deadlock was broken when Michael Amadio capitalized on a powerplay, courtesy of a perfect backhand pass from Nic Roy.

Physicality was minimal until the final two minutes of the first period. Mason Marchment and Nic Hague collided while going after the puck, with Marchment seemingly making head contact with Hague’s shoulder. Despite the apparent infraction, no penalty was assessed. In response, Hague cross-checked Marchment, resulting in a penalty for the Golden Knights. They successfully killed 40 seconds of the Stars‘ power play, leaving 1:20 for the penalty kill in the second period.

Moving to the second period, despite only one goal, the frame witnessed numerous scoring opportunities. Alex Pietrangelo had a close call with an almost empty net, while Zach Whitecloud’s defensive prowess prevented a Stars‘ chance.

The Golden Knights executed several odd-man rushes, showcasing their offensive capabilities. However, the Stars capitalized on a defensive lapse by Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore, with Roope Hintz finding the soft spot to level the score after a poorly executed line change.

The third period continued to have some intense action, with both teams creating numerous high-danger chances and bringing the crowd to their feet. Jake Oettinger and Adin Hill each came up with big saves that made each team earn a point.

In overtime, Jason Robertson tested Hill twice, but the Golden Knights goaltender made a huge glove save on a point-blank shot.

Jack Eichel then took control for the Golden Knights, ending the game with a backhand-forehand move that beat a frozen Oettinger, securing the extra point for the Golden Knights.
