On Monday, the Golden Knights took on the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. VGK was looking for their seventh win in their last nine games. It started ideally for the Golden Knights, but the defending Stanley Cup champs couldn’t finish the job in Nashville.

It took just 40 seconds for the Golden Knights to lose to the Predators in OT. The Predators’ Roman Josi scored to lead Nashville to a 5-4 win over the Golden Knights on Tuesday, extending the Predators’ consecutive games unbeaten in regulation to a franchise-record 18 games.

We had a great 40 minutes,” Golden Knights defenseman Noah Hanifin told reports after the game. “It’s just playing that complete 60 is something we have to get better at, obviously.

When you have a lead like that, teams start to cheat a lot and produce offense,” Hanifin said. “I don’t think we handled that well.

Things looked like they would be all golden for VGK when the Golden Knights took a 3-0 first-period lead.

Ivan Barbashev scored the 100th goal of his career at 2:45 of the opening period, converting on a one-timer off of a two-on-one rush with Jack Eichel for a 1-0 lead.

Brett Howden followed at 5:08, collecting a loose puck in the slot and firing a wrist shot just under the crossbar. Shae Theodore made it 3-0 with 3:17 remaining in the first with a wrist shot from the high slot.

Mark Jankowski scored with 5:27 remaining in the second period for the Predators. But William Karlsson restored the Golden Knights’ three-goal lead with 56.7 left in the period.

At the end of two periods, it was 4-1 Golden Knights over the Predators.

Ryan O’Reilly would reduce the Predators‘ deficit to two with his goal 5:52 into the third period, and the Nashville comeback started.

Filip Forsberg would score his 40th goal of the season after an incredible sequence alongside Jason Zucker and Jankowski. The Golden Knights would challenge for offsides, and the long replay didn’t inspire confidence that the goal would be upheld.

The Predators went on the power play down 4-3, and Gustav Nyquist would answer the bell. Nyquist picked up his 20th goal of the year just 40 seconds into the powerplay, and the Predators had completed the comeback and tied it up with just over 7 minutes left in the game.

Obviously, the challenge didn’t help us,” VGK coach Bruce Cassidy said. “You almost look at it. It looks like it has to be offsides almost by physics, but it’s not how they saw it.

The Predators Roman Josi scored the game-winner 40 seconds into overtime, and the Golden Knights came away with a 5-4 loss.

It’s not the end of the world,Cassidy said. “You’re going to have those nights, but we’ve been building in the right direction. We’ve been a lot closer to our game, and I thought we did a lot of things well.

The points are really important for us right now, Ivan Barbashev said. “We got one of them tonight. We’ve just got to keep going forward, trying to forget about this night.

The Golden Knights are on the road to take on the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, March 28th, at 5:00 p.m. Thanks for visiting for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
