The Golden Knights were coming off a pitiful performance Monday night against the New Jersey Devils. So the question heading into the tail end of back-to-back games was what Golden Knights team will show up to play in Long Island against the Islanders?

The Golden Knights and Islanders last faced off against each other on January 6th in Vegas. Jack Eichel and Nicolas Roy each had a pair of goals in the 5-2 victory for the Golden Knights. A coaching change for the Islanders (hiring NHL Hall of Famer Patrick Roy) and the Golden Knights playing on the second leg of a back-to-back will even things out. This is a tough spot for the Golden Knights.

Coach Cassidy ripped the Golden Knights’ effort against New Jersey on Monday. “We basically played a beer league game out there.” Cassidy on Monday’s effort. “The plays we made until the last goal were careless and disrespectful to the game.”

The Golden Knights have proven to be successful in the second legs of back-t0-back scenarios. On Tuesday night, that trend proved to be correct with VGK coming away with a 3-2 victory.

VGK Adin Hill made his long-awaited return to the Golden Knights lineup on Tuesday evening. Hill was a huge difference maker and made some key saves when he had to, especially when the team went into a defensive shell in the 3rd period after the team stopped pushing the pace.

Ivan Barbashev got things going with a goal in the 1st period, and he has been a much more impactful player for the Golden Knights in the 2nd half of the young season.

Things remained tied after 20 minutes.

The Islanders Brock Nelson tied things up 3:35 into the period, but the Golden Knights struck back just under 4 minutes later. Vegas went to the power play, and Sheldon Rempal found the back of the net to notch his 1st career NHL goal at 7:18 of the period.

Normally guys say they blackout but I think I’ll remember every little detail about that goal.” Rempal on scoring his first NHL goal. “You’re not a human being if you don’t have doubts. I think it’s all about hanging in there. When it’s your turn, it’s your turn.”

Nicolas Roy and Alex Pietrangelo picked up assists and helped push momentum in the team’s favor. Roy picked up a goal of his own 1:49 later, and Vegas ended the 2nd period with a 3-1 lead with the hopes of shutting things down in the 3rd to secure a win.

The Islanders pulled within a goal when JG Pageau scored a shorthanded goal at 9:26, but that would be the game’s final goal. Hill stood tall the rest of the way for the Golden Knights, and after stopping eight shots in the 1st, he stopped 32 of 34 in the final 40 minutes of play, including 15 in the 3rd period.

It was fun to get back in game action tonight.” Hill after the VGK victory. “I felt pretty good; our guys played a good game. I felt like I didn’t miss a day.”

We certainly weren’t perfect; I thought we competed harder to keep the puck out of our net, which was the ask after last night.”’ Golden Knights Coach Cassidy comparing the last two games.

The Golden Knights continue their road trip against the New York Rangers on Friday, January 26th, at 4:30 p.m. PST. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
