The Golden Knights’ are in the middle of a losing streak that has them frustrated and trying to figure out ways to end it. They entered Saturday’s game against the New York Islanders knowing that they would be at T-Mobile Arena playing six of their next seven games at home.

The Golden Knights need to have their role players step up. Players like Michael Amadio, Brett Howden, and Nicolas Roy are being counted on to pick up their play amidst the free-fall VGK has been in. The Golden Knights need to find other consistent scorers to help out the stars.

The Golden Knights also have had their fair share of injuries this season. (I know, does that sound familiar?) They have had players miss a combined 150 total games. That does not include goalie Robin Lehner being on LTIR. The Golden Knights need to find a consistent line-up, but with all the injuries that is almost impossible to do. VGK Coach Bruce Cassidy is in a catch-22.

The Islanders came into Saturday’s game in third place in the Metro Division. Their leading point producer is Matthew Barzal, with 39 points.

VGK ended their skid with a much-needed 5-2 win over the Islanders. Could the win versus the Isles be the springboard to turning things around, or was it false hope for Golden Knights fans? Time will tell.

The Golden Knights got on the board first. Jack Eichel drilled a one-timer on an assist from Jonathan Marchessault. Then things got weird. Matthew Barzal celebrated as if he scored but play continued. A review took place and it did show that Barzal scored from below the goal line, behind the net.

The Golden Knights‘ defense has been an issue in recent weeks, and it was again on Saturday. The pairing of Bjornfot and Hague once again struggled during the first period. The front of VGK goalie Logan Thompson’s net was unprotected on numerous occasions early on Saturday. While it didn’t cost them in the first period, this is something that has been problematic for VGK and still hasn’t been fixed.

The Golden Knights end the first period tied up at 1 a-piece with the Islanders.

The second period was action-packed with scoring chances with the Golden Knights breaking through in the final 3 minutes of the period.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored a nice goal after passes from Mark Stone and Chandler Stephenson. All Dorofeyev had to do was tap the puck into an empty net from two feet away. A minute and a half later the Golden Knights scored once again. Nic Roy scored after getting a nice screen from enforcer Keegan Kolesar. New York didn’t like the screen and challenged the play, but the challenge failed and the goal was upheld.

The Golden Knights took a 3-2 lead into the third period against the Islanders.

The third period finally saw VGK look like the Golden Knights we watched earlier in the season. In the first 4:20 of the period, the teams combined for three goals. It was Eichel and Roy once again as they scored their second goals of the game for VGK. Matt Martin scored the goal for the Islanders.

But after the fast start to the period, things calmed down and the Golden Knights skated to a much-needed 5-2 win.

We’ve always been a good rush team, we always want to continue to work on our offensive zone play.Jack Eichel on finding ways to score beyond the rush.

“Those are timely saves, you don’t know when they are going to come.” Golden Knights Coach Cassidy said regarding the goaltending. “I can’t emphasize enough, timely goals and timely saves can really change momentum swings and do wonders for your team.

The Golden Knights will travel to Colorado to take on the Avalanche on Wednesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m. PST. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
