The Vegas Golden Knights faced off against the Calgary Flames at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights looked to extend their winning streak to four games and their point streak to nine games when they took on the Calgary Flames. It was the second game in Vegas’ four-game homestand after the club defeated the Sharks 5-4 in a shootout Sunday night.

The Golden Knights came into the game having won three consecutive games for the first time since early November but lost the only other matchup against the Flames this season, falling 2-1 late in overtime on MacKenzie Weegar’s buzzer-beater.

Several Golden Knights skaters carried point streaks into last night’s game, including Jack Eichel, who had four goals and 12 points during his seven-game point streak. The list also includes Chandler Stephenson (three games, four points), Mark Stone (three games, four points), Brayden McNabb (three games, three points), and Zach Whitecloud (three games, four points).

Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals (giving him a team-high 14 on the year) and the shootout clincher in Sunday’s game, which saw the Golden Knights blow a late lead but recover with a 2-0 victory in the shootout.

Jiri Patera made his first start of the season and stopped 35 of 39 shots, but Logan Thompson was expected to be back between the pipes tonight against the Flames.

The Flames are coming off a 6-5 loss to the Avalanche Monday night in Denver.

The Flames have lost two straight and four of their last five games, going 4-6-0 in their last 10. They came into the game in fifth place in the Pacific Division with 25 points through 28 games.

The Golden Knights are 12-6-1 in the all-time matchup against the Flames, including 8-1-0 on home ice.

Golden Knights vs Flames First Period:

It was the start of the Golden Knights vs Flames first period.

The Golden Knights went down early in the 1st period as MacKenzie Weegar beat Logan Thompson to pick up his 7th goal of the season. Chandler Stephenson answered later on in the period to pick up his 5th goal of the season, and it was the 3rd consecutive game in which the Golden Knights forward found the back of the net.

After 20 minutes of play, the game was tied 1-1, and the next 20 minutes were both odd and frustrating for Golden Knights fans.

Nazim Kadri started the scoring by being in the right place at the right time. Martin Pospisil fired a shot from between the circles that deflected off the rib cage of Kadri and into the goal. The Golden Knights answered as Ivan Barbashev tied things up when Mark Stone found him all alone in the slot.

Alex Pietrangelo had a strong scoring chance off a one-timer from the left circle. Wolf made the save and the Flames quickly transitioned to the VGK side of the ice. Yegor Sharangovich fired a shot from the right side that Thompson would like to have back.

I don’t think we played that well through the majority of November, but we were clawing our way into games and getting into overtime when we weren’t playing our best hockey,Stone said. “Right now, we’re playing pretty well.

Mark Stone tied the game with a power play goal to give the Golden Knights a burst of energy. William Karlsson scored with just under four minutes remaining off a nice pass from Stephenson.

The Golden Knights had pulled another rabbit out of their hats, but Sharangovich briefly sent the crowd into despair after redirecting a puck past Thompson to make it 4-4 with a minute left on the clock. Luckily the Golden Knights capitalized with their top unit in overtime.

The Flames possessed the puck for most of the overtime. However, the Golden Knights caused a turnover with two Flames players caught at the red line. Stone took a lead pass from Jack Eichel and scored on a partial breakaway to send the Golden Knights faithful home happy.
