Vegas Golden Knights (17-5-5)  |  St. Louis Blues (13-11-1)

Wednesday nights Golden Knights vs Blues game had a different feel considering what happened earlier in Las Vegas. But the Golden Knights demolished the Blues 6-3 in St. Louis to help take VGK minds off of things.

The Vegas Golden Knights squared off against the St. Louis Blues as the two clubs wrapped up their home-and-home Wednesday night in St. Louis.

The Blues defeated Vegas 2-1 in overtime Monday night at T-Mobile Arena thanks to a stellar performance by goaltender Jordan Binnington, who frustrated the Golden Knights all evening.

Vegas had a ton of high-quality scoring chances but failed to execute, particularly in the first period. Jack Eichel’s equalizer late in the third helped Vegas extend its point streak to five games, but the Golden Knights will look to come away with both points in tonight’s rematch. They are now first in the NHL in goals against per game, with an average of just 2.31.

The Blues are a much better team at home, which will make things challenging for Vegas; St. Louis is 7-3-3 at Enterprise Center and 6-7-1 on the road. However, St. Louis has the worst penalty kill on home ice (66.7 percent) compared to the third-best on the road (88.2 percent).

Vegas, meanwhile, has gone 12-for-46 on the power play on the road (26.7 percent) compared to 8-for-46 at home (17.4 percent). That should give the Golden Knights a better matchup on special teams in tonight’s contest.

In general, though, the Golden Knights won’t look to make many changes to their game plan aside from taking better advantage of their opportunities.

Vegas is now 13-9-2 in the all-time matchup against St. Louis, including 5-6-0 at Enterprise Center.

Zach Whitecloud scored the game’s first goal at 8:03 into the first period, and everything was going well. Logan Thompson was making good saves. All four lines for the Golden Knights were getting scoring opportunities. The Golden Knights looked to be all set to avenge Monday’s defeat by the Blues. Scripps Sports displayed a graphic showing that the Blues were 1-10-1 after allowing the first goal.

Then the wheels fell off.

Jake Neighbors, Kevin Hays, and Jordan Kyrou scored the game’s following three goals due to blown coverages, too many players collapsing on the puck, poor turnovers, and poor efforts in one-on-one situations.

The Golden Knights chased a game against the Blues for the second time this week.

The Golden Knights scored four goals in 10 minutes to completely turn the game around. Jack Eichel started the scoring off for the Golden Knights with a turnover created by Ivan Barbashev in the offensive zone. Then Jonathan Marchessault scored a power-play goal with a one-timer from a between-the-legs, no-look pass from William Karlsson.

Next, Keegan Kolesar set up shop in front of the net and scored an admirable tip-in goal from Brayden McNabb. Finally, Michael Amadio capped off an immaculate second period with a late power-play goal.

Was there anything a player or coach Cassidy said between the first and second periods?

The Golden Knights held a 14-1 shot advantage at one point during the third period and were in total control. The Blues could not stay out of the box.

But after the game, the Golden Knights’ thoughts shifted to Las Vegas, where earlier in the day, three people were killed and another injured when a shooter opened fire at UNLV.

“It’s a difficult day, and we stand together with the community,Whitecloud said on the tragedy at UNLV earlier in the day. “It seems to happen whenever he’s (Whitecloud’s father) in town,Whitecloud the luck the Dad’s trip brings to the Golden Knights.

The city means everything to us. We are going to rally around the city and try and give back as much as we can.” Kolesar on the tragic event at UNLV earlier in the day. “It’s nice to see that the work you put in gets rewarded,Kolesar on his tip-in goal.

Our hearts go out to the people in Las Vegas. We have people close to us who are working at UNLV,Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy said on the tragedy at UNLV earlier in the day. “We didn’t manage the puck particularly well.” Coach Cassidy on the victory. “You got to have a goaltender that gives you a chance to win. Wins have been tough to come by for Logan, the other goalies have been on. He’s our guy for now until Adin gets healthy.
