The Golden Knights took on the Colorado Avalanche Sunday night inside T-Mobile Arena. A win would put Vegas one point back of the idle Los Angeles Kings for third place in the Pacific Division.

The Golden Knights rallied from a three-goal deficit to pick up a 4-3 overtime victory against the Avalanche at T-Mobile Arena to the joy of VGK everywhere.

Tomas Hertl scored the game-winner at 1:23 of overtime, which followed the Golden Knights scoring three times in the third period.

William Karlsson scored twice for Vegas, including the game-tying goal at 16:23 of the third period. Ivan Barbashev had the other goal, while Adin Hill made 21 saves.

I think having one of those where we weren’t at our best, and we stuck with it. It would have been easy tonight to say, ‘You know what? We’ll build our game, do some things in the third that are good, and then worry about our next one next week,Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Good that they push back and want to win. So, I think that’ll help to group collectively as we go into the playoffs because this is a game, if and when we’re in this position, we’ll look back and say this is the one that says, ‘Hey, you’re never out of it and here’s how we got back in it.

The Avalanche got on the board first. Ross Colton fired a sharp shot that snuck past Hill at 7:26 in the first period. And then they built on their lead when Nathan MacKinnon feathered a slick pass all the way cross-ice to a wide-open Cale Makar, who picked his spot to score the game’s second goal at 10:34.

After 20 minutes of play, the lead was 2-0 in Colorado’s favor.

In the second period, Vegas started to claw back little by little until Hertl executed a great tip at the net front. Still, Jared Bednar challenged for goaltender interference as Alexandar Georgiev’s pad was slightly disturbed and won; therefore, there was no goal. But it was the Avalanche who would get the tally on the board for the period as Mikko Rantanen deflected a shot perfectly into the net.

Through two periods, Colorado had a commanding 3-0 lead.

At 2:56, Barbashev beat Cale Makar on a wrap-around and surprised Georgiev at the net front to put Vegas on the board. Then, a power play goal by Karlsson at 6:35 gave the Golden Knights new life. A second goal by Karlsson on the rush tied the game at 16:32, and the Avalanche were left wondering what happened.

With a full power play to work with to start overtime, Vegas was able to cash in as at 1:23, Hertl got the goal he scored earlier to count with another tip in front, and that was the game, a 4-3 win for Vegas.

We all know we didn’t play good in the first and second,Barbashev said. “We had to talk about it in the locker room. We knew we had it. We went out there and played the right way.

I think your game is not always going to be perfect, or at least every aspect,Jack Eichel said following the game. “But you have to battle and compete. It was good resilience from the group.

The Golden Knights are back home to take on the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:00 p.m. Thanks for visiting FranchiseSportsMedia.com for your Las Vegas Sports news today.
