It is Early National Signing Day for college football, and UNLV is acquiring talent for their 2022 recruiting class. Over the weekend, while on his official visit, linebacker and UNLV commit Tanner Salisbury reached out to me to see if FSM would be interested in a letter he wanted to write to UNLV fans. Of course, we were interested.

Tanner is a quick-twitch linebacker who attacks ball carriers to do damage. He is blessed with great instincts and the ability to drop in coverage. He is an ideal three-down inside “Will” linebacker.

When you put on Tanner’s HUDL, you could see why the UNLV coaching staff was happy to lock in Salisbury, who was one of their top linebacker targets this offseason.

Now it is time to get to know Tanner Salisbury, an impressive young man who comes to Las Vegas looking to make an impact right away. He doesn’t care if it is on special teams or when lined up on defense.

Now let’s hear from UNLV commit Tanner Salisbury, in his own words, why he chose to Be A Rebel.

My name is Tanner Salisbury, and I am one of UNLV football’s newest recruits in the class of 2022.

I am a man of few interests, but football has been a major part of my identity from a young age. I spend most of my time in the gym or hanging out with my good friends/family outside of football. I also enjoy buying, wearing, and reselling streetwear.

I started playing football in 4th grade for the San Ramon Valley Thunder Birds or “T-Birds.” I played T-Birds all the way up until 8th grade before attending San Ramon Valley, where I began by playing JV as a freshman. I then was brought up to varsity for the playoffs, where we were led by now Stanford linebacker Tristain Sinclair who was recruited by coach Peter Hansen, who now is part of the UNLV staff as the defensive coordinator.

We ended up beating a loaded Freedom High team with players such as Giles Jackson to win the NCS championship. My sophomore year, I started both ways and had a great 7-4 season at San Ramon Valley. When Covid hit, I transferred to Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California, for my junior season, where I got playing time before obtaining an injury before the short five-game season.

I was receiving looks from many power five teams across the nation before my Injury that cost me my junior season due to the shortness of it. After that season is when coach Larry Grant and coach Hansen from UNLV reached out to me and started recruiting me as an inside linebacker, they constantly checked up on me, making sure I was recovering well, and continuously did a great job of recruiting me.

For my senior season, I chose to move back to my home in the Bay Area and again play for San Ramon Valley. I kept in touch with coach Grant and coach Hansen throughout my senior season. In addition, I started building an extraordinary relationship with UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo.

After my notable senior season had come to an end, it was time to make a decision. I chose to commit to UNLV for a number of great reasons. They separated themselves from the other schools I had offers from in many ways.

The coaching staff at UNLV felt unlike any other school recruiting me. The coaches not only care for you as a football player but as a person too, which is a big deal for me. Another way UNLV separated itself is the excellent facilities and culture they have built in the last three years.

I not only believe that UNLV is on the rise but, in the next years, will be one of the top programs in college football with coach Arroyo leading the way. I cannot wait to step foot on campus in June to start working with my teammates on achieving goals that some may think impossible.

The Rebels are coming! Rebel Nation, I am excited to be a part of something special with you! LET’S GO! – Tanner Salisbury
