This Friday, fans will again be treated to a special event of two warriors from their respective sports battling one another in the squared circle. Former boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will face off against former MMA champion Francis Ngannou in a 10-round boxing match.

Joshua (27-3 24KOs) will look for his fourth straight victory in the ring after losing his title in the summer of 2022. Afterward, the former British champion has put together three impressive wins, two of which came via stoppage, showing that he is still one of the division’s top fighters.

When the idea first came around of boxers welcoming MMA fighters to the ring, Joshua looked at it as more of a gimmick circus show and not an accurate representation of the sweet science. But now fighters like Conor McGregor and Francis Ngannou have made the crossover to big numbers pay-per-view and ticket sale-wise.

Seeing these warriors take the fight seriously and come in looking as impressive as they did for their debut bouts, Joshua couldn’t help but agree to do such a match himself. A proper victory, which would make four in a row, can set up Joshua very nicely to have his name near the top of the list for number one contenders for a future world title fight later this year. But first, he has a Predator to deal with.

Making his second appearance in the ring, Ngannou (0-1) will look to capitalize off the moment and respect he built in his first fight against Tyson Fury back in October with hopes this time it is his hand that is raised in victory. He came from the world of MMA, where the former champion was 17-3 12KOs, one of the most feared punchers in the history of the sport.

The man from Cameroon who first started training in boxing wanted to give it a go and chase his dream. Going toe to toe with Fury, one of the best heavyweights in the world, Ngannou showed power, strength, patience and had several highlight moments including a knockdown of the former champion with a left hook. With the first fight jitters out the way, can Ngannou put it together for a full ten rounds? He is facing a stronger puncher in Joshua than he did with Fury, so he must do a better job not allowing his foe to press forward and apply pressure.

This will be an exciting battle as the mystery of how Ngannou will look in the ring is already gone. Will Joshua overlook his opponent and not come in shape like Fury? Can Ngannou find a consistent home for his big bombs, which have been shown to put Joshua on the ground in past bouts? Has Anthony regained his confidence, and will he let his hands go and show why he is one of the sport’s best?

All these questions and more will be answered when these two gladiators step into the ring to see who is the better warrior.

Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou takes place Friday, with prelims beginning at 11 am EST.
